North Georgia Artographer Desiree’ Griffiths has been artfully creating images using light and layered compositions for the last five years. Immediately upon taking up the hobby of photography, she began to notice how light could bring drama and mood to a scene. Desiree’ especially enjoys studying light painting techniques and experimenting with various digital editing software. She uses these tools to tell visual stories with her photography, encompassing innocence and a touch of whimsy. Since 2015, when she first began learning the settings on her camera, her talent grew quickly, and she gained some very positive exposure as her pieces began to hang in galleries throughout the Southeast. In 2018, her work was chosen for Paulding County Photographer of the year, Best of Show (Blue Ridge Mountain Arts Association Juried Photography Show), and Best of Show (Paulding Fine Arts Association Juried Art Show), in addition to other numerous awards. Desiree has had her work displayed internationally, and she currently has pieces on permanent display at the City of Dallas Municipal Courthouse and Johnnie MacCracken’s Firehouse Pub in Marietta, GA. ARTIST STATEMENT: Something in my soul clicked when I pressed the camera shutter for the first time one Spring morning in 2015. I set my alarm to wake me before dawn so that I could race over to a nearby field in hopes of catching a colorful sunrise with a certain magnificent tree gracing the scene. My adrenaline had taken over, and I had not even taken the time to change out of my pajamas! Yeah, I was clearly over the moon with excitement about my new hobby and dove in with my whole heart. I also realized at that moment that I had a lot of pent-up creativity which needed an outlet! Instantly, and with infinite possibilities, I now had a way to explore and tap into what makes the world move for me. I was filled with so much excitement then and just as much, now. Many nights I will stay up into the wee hours and completely forget about the time, letting inspiration guide me while working with an image on my computer. Sometimes, I know what I want the end product to look like as I move through the editing process, and other times a new story will simply unfold as I go along. While it is important that an image have good composition, detail, light, etc., the magic in the photograph sometimes happens first in the heart. Artography really is one part skill and 3 parts creative vision. The ending of each image captured and rendered is the beginning of a new idea in the creative process, and it is a beautiful artistic journey that I celebrate every day.
