Louisa is originally from Long Island and Vermont having lived there from 1952-1970. She grew up immersed in equine endeavors and graduated from Bennett College with degrees in drawing, painting and film. While in college she received a grant to study in Europe during the winter of 1970-71. In 1973 she moved west and after a horrific car wreck and two years in hospitals, sailed the Caribbean, lived and worked in Haiti and finally settled in the Aspen, Colorado area raising two kids. During which time she pursued a career in fine arts as well as equine coaching and training. She apprenticed for 20 years with renowned Crow Indian painter Earl Biss, studied with acclaimed equine artists: Peter Howell, Jean Bowman, Heather St. Clair Davis and Booth Malone. In 2000 she became a professional digital photographer and masthead shooter for several magazines that sent her to many world events from concerts to P.B.R. Finals in Vegas. A two time exhibitor with The American Academy of Equine Artists, Louisa has won many awards and been represented in numerous galleries, museums and corporate and private collections. Countless magazines have featured her photography and paintings. She has also enjoyed traveling throughout North America in a vintage Airstream. ARTIST STATEMENT-2020: I love to capture what is alive and moving such as the raw athleticism of high goal polo and rodeo. I have returned to Colorado to be with family and paint in my new Carbondale digs after several winters in Aiken, South Carolina. I am excited to mine the extensive photo stock collection that I have amassed and revisit sketch books for painting possibilities. The wisdom that comes from learning to see is prevailing in the work. I am available for shoots and commissions having become known for expressive and soulful portraits.
